Manga Vengal Chutney

Raw Mango and Onion Chutney, best served as an accompaniment with idli, dosa, upma, and any other savoury snacks.

Ingredients

  • 2 raw mangoes
  • 1 onion
  • 2-3 tblsps jaggery
  • salt to taste
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • a pinch of asofetida
  • 2 whole red chillies

  Prep: 5 min                    Cook: 10 min                          Ready In: 15 min

Method

  • Peel and dice the mango and the onions. Add into a blender with the remaining ingredients. Whir until it is a thick paste. Transfer into a bowl. Adjust for seasoning
  • For the tempering: Heat oil in a small pan, add in the mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add the asafetida, curry leaves and red chillies and stir fry for 15 seconds.
  • Turn off the heat and add into the bowl of chutney.
  • Serve with just about anything.
