Kodi (Chicken) Kurra (Curry)

A simple yet flavourful chicken curry in thick gravy

Ingredients

  • 500 gms chicken (cut into cubes)
  • 8 finely chopped onions – 8 finely chopped
  • 5-6 green chillies (slit into two halves)
  • 2 sprigs curry leaves
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • FOR THE KURRA PASTE
  • 5 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 4-6 cloves
  • 3-4 green cardamoms
  • 1″ stick cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 10-12 cashew nuts
  • 1″ piece ginger
  • 3 pods garlic

  Prep: 15 min                    Cook: 25 min                          Ready In: 40 min

Method

  • Grind ingredients for the ‘kurra’ paste with just enough water. Keep aside.
  • Mix the Chicken pieces with the ‘Kurra’ paste, chilli powder, turmeric, and salt. Refrigerate overnight or keep for a couple of hours.
  • In a little oil, saute chopped onions, curry leaves and green chillies till golden brown.
  • Add chicken cubes and stir fry well. Add water to cover Chicken, bring to boil. Cover and simmer till Chicken is done and gravy is thick.
  • Garnish with Fresh Coriander leaves and serve.
